Short-Term Individual Counseling

  • Individual counseling is a one-on-one process between a client and a trained mental health professional (LPC/LSW or LCPC/LCSW). The goal is to help the individual explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe, confidential environment. Saint Xavier students can see a therapist for up to 12 sessions in an academic year.
  • Crisis interventions are one-time appointments designed to help a student resolve a mental health crisis.
  • Triage/one-time appointments are designed to help a student resolve an immediate clinical issue or help a student connect to providers in the community.

Outreach Events

  • Wellness events (mental health screening days, AODEP, social events, etc.) throughout the academic year connect the Counseling Center to students and provide information on various mental health resources or coping skills
  • In-classroom presentations provide education.

Professional Trainings

  • QPR (question, persuade, and refer) is training to help the collegiate community recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

In-Class Presentation

The Counseling Center offers in-class presentations on various mental health-related topics. If you would like a staff member to come present to your classroom, please contact counselingservicesFREE»Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ.

If you are concerned about a student, we suggest that you encourage them to come to the Counseling Center or fill out a Request for Services form online to discuss the situation with a counselor.

Here are some helpful ways to refer a student:

  • Suggest that the student come to the Counseling Center, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Call the main line (ext. 4045) while you are with the student in order to facilitate contact. The student can then speak to someone regarding services.
  • Walk the student over to the Counseling Center, located at 3911 103rd Street in the Driehaus Center. If this is an emergency, a counselor will speak to the student immediately.
Please remember that the communication between a counselor and client is confidential.

Without written consent from the student, we cannot and do not discuss the details of a student's situation or even whether a student is connected with the Counseling Center.
