Those who have followed Davide Battistin up to this point may have encountered him at an exhibition, in a gallery, or perhaps in a catalogue. From today onward, they can return to meet him whenever they wish, in a single space that gathers his work over time.
The Painter of Light
Davide has been painting Venice for as long as he can remember, not the Venice of postcards, but the one seen only by staying still long enough. Born in the lagoon, he trained at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts and took his first steps as a restorer: a profession that taught him the patience required to read a work in detail. For several years he taught painting at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, before choosing to dedicate himself entirely to his own work. Today, he lives by painting his lifelong subject: Venice and its lights.
A method called subtraction. A minimalist palette, essential surfaces, a light that seems to move on its own.
This is why Davide is called the painter of light: he does not merely depict Venice, he captures the exact moment in which water and sky cease to have a boundary.
A quest that has taken him to international exhibitions (from the annual cycle in London to his recent Paris showcase), always remaining faithful to the same question: what remains of a place when everything superfluous is removed ?
