Saint Xavier Council hosted 'Purple Thursday' to promote awareness towards domestic violence

Did you know that nearly 10 million women and men are affected by domestic violence each year? According to the , "One in three women, and one in four men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime."

To combat these staggering statistics, Saint Xavier Council (SXC) hosted a "Week of Action" this fall to show support for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One of the events entitled, "Purple Thursday" was a standout from the week with over 60 students, faculty and staff, and administrators donning the color purple -- the color representing domestic violence -- who came together to hear a speech and pledges from members of SXC and Dr. Tony Campbell, vice president of student affairs. In addition, members of the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ community received a purple flower to serve as a representation of »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ's stance against domestic violence.
